Look at this interesting article about how portion sizes have changed over the years. When McDonald's opened, the only burger they had is the one that is now in the kid's meal. An average bagel is more than twice as big as it used to be. It is just ridiculous. No wonder we eat too much...we've been trained not to understand how much is normal.

Tonight I went out for ice cream with Windsornot. It was great. We both got a "kid size" but I swear it was more than a little kid should have. That is what used to be a medium I bet. Sure is interesting to think about...

I remember hearing a radio interview with Tim Gunn of Project Runway, and the other thing, talking about the changes in size is that over time, as the sizes of the population has changed, the sizing standards have changed as well, and he said it's been done on purpose! So someone who is an 8 now may have been a 14 at another time, or something silly like that, so he was really emphasizing to not get caught up in the number of the size, but it's more important just to get something that fits properly, because even the standards of sizing are not truly standard from manufacturer to manufacturer. So that's something to keep in mind too. That why, as much as I am not happy with my size number, once I just sucked it up and bought the right size, I will admit that I'm looking better in my clothes. (Hence, this is part of the reason that I want to learn to sew my own clothes. Then it is TRULY tailored to me!)
